ST. JAMES EPISCOPAL CHURCH
“Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 298).
St. James welcomes new members into the family of Christ through the Rite of Holy Baptism. Baptisms are performed for parishioners of all ages. The Book of Common Prayer suggests that the following days are most appropriate for Baptisms: the Easter Vigil, the Day of Pentecost, All Saint’s Day (or the Sunday following), and the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the First Sunday after the Epiphany). Educational meetings are held prior to the baptismal service for the baptismal candidates and sponsors (for infants and young children that cannot speak for themselves).
St. James welcomes all baptized Christians that regularly receive communion at their own church to commune with us. Holy Communion, or Eucharist, is offered at all Sunday masses.
Members of St. James are expected to make a mature affirmation of their faith after baptism through Confirmation. Candidates are confirmed after the successful completion of a series of educational classes, held annually. Parishioners of middle school age and older are encouraged to affirm their faith though the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Those parishioners that are already confirmed in denominations that are in Full Communion with the Episcopal Church will be received into this branch of Christ’s Church. Those who have been confirmed but have been inactive for a period of time, may Reaffirm their Faith when the Bishop comes for Confirmation. Please contact the Rector to discuss eligibility if you are interested in Confirmation, Reception or Reaffirmation.
St. James recognizes the profound importance of the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, both to the individuals and our entire Parish family. We regularly perform weddings and host receptions on our church grounds. As in all Episcopal parishes, we believe that marriage should be celebrated within your home parish. The St. James family welcomes couples seeking a parish home and encourages regular worship at St. James to develop lasting covenantal marriage relationships.
We believe in the sanctity of life and honoring the passing of life through the Funeral Rite of Burial of the Dead for both baptized and non-baptized Christians. We offer pastoral support for those encountering such loss.
Please contact the Rector or other clergy on the staff at the church office if you encounter a loss and are in need of the funeral rites for your loved one.
If you are interested in receiving any of these sacraments, please contact Fr. Roy at (813)310-8031 or email@example.com
